Maptime! Manila - 30th August

Time: 10:30 - 13:30
Venue: AVR, Third floor, Main building, PUP San Juan Campus, Ortega Street, Addition Hills

We meet every last Thursday of the month to work on maps, learn about geospatial data, and teach each other about various tools and techniques for mapping. Maptime! is time for map-making. Our mission is to open the doors of cartographic possibility to anyone interested by creating a time and space for collaborative learning, exploration, and map creation using mapping tools and technologies.

This month we have the following presenters:

  • Mikko will share about how they use OpenStreetMap in their work in the Red Cross.
  • Feye will talk about the initiatives of the latest YouthMappers chapter in the Philippines, from the UP Resilience Institute.
  • Leonard will present their experience mapping Cordillera Trails, and how they use utilized Drones/UAV for determining the extent of the grassfire in Mt. Pulag.
  • Erwin will present about the re-boot of the OSMaPaaralan initiative, to validate the Department of Education data of public schools and add them in OpenStreetMap.

Blitz/Lightning talk slots may be made available for others who want to talk about their mapping projects.

This open learning environment for all levels and degrees of knowledge offers intentional support for the beginner. Maptime! is simultaneously flexible and structured, creating space for workshops, ongoing projects with a shared goal, and independent/collaborative work time. Our goal is to provide this space with an open heart and without pretension. You can bring your own projects to work on, or just hang out and socialize or ask questions. Some people are experts, and some people are just getting started, but all of us are learning, so why not do it together?
