SESSION ABSTRACTS

18:45 Building data pipelines with open source

A few years ago, moving data between applications and data stores included expensive monolithic stacks from large software vendors with little flexibility.

Now, with frameworks such as Apache Beam and Apache Airflow, we can schedule and run data processing jobs for both streaming and batch with the same underlying code.

Rustam's presentation demonstrates the concepts of how this can glue your applications together and shows how we can run data pipelines as Java code, the use cases for such pipelines, and how we can move them from local machines to the cloud solutions by changing just a few lines of Java in our Apache Beam code.

20:00: 5 Tips to Make Your Java Apps More Awesome

But what is awesome? Well, for instance, an awesome app reacts to failure and still remains functional, can provide information about its status, can provide an easy way of enabling easy way of toggling features, is easy to test, and is fast – it is ready to go to prod right away!

Rustam talks about these and other features and shows you some options while he builds an (slightly opinionated?) demo application from scratch. Join us at the Dublin Java User Group for this fun evolution of a few lines of code into a modern cloud-native application!

Rustam's talk is live-streamed as part of the jChampions conference running for four days, Thursday 19th, Friday 20th, Monday 23rd, and Tuesday 24th January. Other presentations are by Antoine Sabot-Durand, Barry Burd, Bazlur Rahman, Brian Benz, Cesar Hernandez, Emily Jiang, Gail Anderson, Grace Jansen, Haim Yadid, Henri Tremblay, Holly Cummins, Ixchel Ruiz, Kirk Pepperdine, Maria Arias de Reyna Dominguez, Mario Fusco, Mary Grygleski (live in Dublin 24th Jan), Ondro Mihalyi, Paul Anderson, Peter Lawrey, Rafael Del Nero, Sandra Parsick, Sebastian Daschner, and Victor Orozco.

At TechMeetup.space, doors open each day at 13:30 for the jChampions Conference Watch Party. Doors to the live in-person talks open at 18:00.
