Books in Browsers V
BiB V: Advancing Open Web Standards and Digital Publishing will explore how open web standards support advanced digital publishing, and how the frontiers of the craft of design in digital publishing, supporting essential authorial intentions, push on our understanding of the requisite nature and corpus of web standards.
In the last four years, the Books in Browsers (BiB) conference has advanced from a discussion of how startups in publishing might optimize existing workflows to exploring the concept of “handmade craft” in digital-native authoring and reading environments. This shift in attendee interest is now bumping against the current limitations of web browsers to author, display, and link page elements together in ways that liberate the next generation of digital publishing.
The incorporation of web-based standards, tools, and services into a fundamental re-engineering of human communications catalyzes a profound change in how we build infrastructures for both scholarly communication and artistic expression.
