Place collage workshop: fun with policy and place

If planning policy sits in the background, what sits in the foreground?

Join Roxanna Collins to collectively answer question 12 of her ‘Twenty-three questions…’ (2026). Together, we’ll weave words and lived experiences of place through this playful collage workshop, aiming to explore our awareness of ‘background’ planning policies, and what our foreground focus might be in the places we hold dear.

In this relaxed session, you will be invited to discuss our differing emotional place-experiences, followed by a role as a reader or audience member (you decide!) for a group reading of short planning policy extracts ready to create our own emotional place maps, abstract drawing and policy word collages. What will form our backgrounds? What will be brought to the foreground?

This is an indoor workshop taking place in Nook Gallery. See map and venue info below.

PAY WHAT YOU FEEL. If you are in a position to please donate what you can, however no one will be denied a place due to lack of funds. The money will go to the artist and some to the gallery.

Roxanna Collins is an artist and post-graduate researcher. Inspired by artists and poets such as Stephen Willats and Tim Cresswell, Roxanna’s practice is positioned within the semi-permeable boundaries between place-attachment and planning policy: the empirical and theoretical; part auto-ethnographic and part creative exploration of new mediums to share place-processes studied through her PhD research.
