Full Moon Walking

After the success of Dark Moon Walking, Stirchley moon walks continue this March with a full moon walk on the evening of Sunday 8th March.

For this bewitching – if slightly scary – group walk, we shall follow a circular route around the waterways of Stirchley and Lifford. If it is a clear night there will be the chance to view some lunar-charged moon water ripe for rituals and spells.

Please see below for the route we'll be taking

This walk is not for the faint-hearted and will only run if there are sufficient numbers. For that reason, and for weather cancellations the day, we ask you to sign up for the event in advance.

(Full moon is actually on the 9th but who's quibbling?)

Additional Information

As some may find this a bit more daunting than our previous walk, we are publishing the route in advance so you can decide if it is for you or not. We shall meet on Fordhouse Lane at the crossing by the River Rea bridge. We shall walk through the Worthings Tunnel and unlit Lifford Woodland to arrive at our very own Swan Lake – Lifford Reservoir.

From there, we shall turn up Tunnel Lane, past the night-glowing calcium-carbonate factory, to the Stratford-upon-Avon canal. Then a short walk to the junction with the Worcester and Birmingham Canal and along the towpath back towards Stirchley. At Dacer Close we take a detour onto the River Rea Route and return via a quiet walkway and rail culvert to the Fordhouse Lane bridge.

Organised by new local walking collective, Walkspace. For details or queries, email fiona@fionacullinan.com

Location: The walk will start and end at the bridge over the River Rea on Fordhouse Lane, by the pedestrian crossing.

Timings: We will start at 6.30pm sharp. The walk will end around 8.30pm, with an option to decamp to the pub.

Accessibility: Approximately 1.5-2 hours of gentle walking. Some footpaths, some rough ground. This walk takes in streets, woodland, a reservoir, canals, bridges, tunnels and cut-throughs, hilly ground and flat suburban streets. Not suitable for wheelchairs.

What to bring: Bring torches for dark sections of uneven ground. Wear sensible shoes and wrap up well. Consider bringing a hot drink.
