Vilnius KUG Meetup #5

How long has it been? A year? An eternity? 🤔 We lost count somewhere between val and var. But the long, dark, Kotlin-less night is over! ☀️

That's right, the Kotlin Meetup is BACK! We're kicking things off with a fantastic new host. Dust off your social skills and get ready to dive back into the world of null safety and extension functions! ✨

We're incredibly excited to be hosted by Saily - an international eSIM service provider and a fast-rising star, powered by Nord Security experts. 🚀 And we’ll meet in their awesome office at Cyber City! They're providing the space, the snacks, and the good vibes - all you need to bring is your love for Kotlin. ❤️

Join us for an evening of learning, networking, and celebrating the fact that we finally remembered the password to the meetup page. 🥳

Agenda

18:00 Doors Open & The "Hey, I Remember You!" time 👋

18:30 - 19:00 Justas Medeišis - "Agents for Kotlin, Kotlin for agents"

Let’s discuss our experience with coding agents and explore what’s under the hood by building our own agent with Koog, a JetBrains framework for building AI agents.

19:00 - 19:30 Break. There'll be snacks—because even robots need fuel!

19:30-20:00 Robertas Šetkus - "Curious Cases of Kotlin FP"

Drawing from the practical knowledge of Functional Programming, we’ll explore ideas with high impact on Kotlin code, including how to model data in an immutable fashion, describe dependencies using contexts and effects, and treat actions as data.

20:00-20:30 Vitalii Kizlov - "iOS Engineer Codes Android - An AI Experiment on Role Boundaries"

What happens when an experienced iOS engineer starts working on real Android production tasks with an AI-first approach?

This is not a classic “switching stacks” story. It’s a practical experiment in reducing friction between platforms and testing how far AI can stretch the boundaries of engineering roles.

We’ll talk about what felt surprisingly natural, what stayed stubbornly platform-specific, where AI genuinely helped, and where it created false confidence. Expect honest lessons, real production context, and a fresh perspective on what cross-platform engineering might look like in an AI-first world.

Many thanks for hosting us to our partners!
