Fall 2018 Seminar: Technology, Design and Ethics

How do we, as a society, decide what is right, what is fair, and what is just? Who gets to decide these things, for whom else, and how? With the rapid growth of computing technology over the past century, we’re constantly faced with new problems, and new questions, at these intersections.

In this six-week course, designed for grownups with jobs, we will consider what it means to talk about ethics and morality in contemporary life, and what it means to apply ethics at the scale of contemporary technology. We’ll meet once a week, for two hours, in two sections: in-person in Portland, and online.
