This workshop will introduce 1) core geospatial data concepts and 2) then focus on working with vector data in R, including reading data, and visualization. It is intended for learners who have no prior knowledge working with geospatial data, but requires knowledge of basic R programming, including data structure, subsetting, plotting, and exporting. The workshop will teach in the R studio.

  • The goal of this workshop is to teach novice programmers to write modular code and best practices for using R for data analysis using RStudio. R is commonly used in many scientific disciplines for statistical analysis and its array of third-party packages. We find that many scientists who come to Software Carpentry workshops use R and want to learn more.
