Troop 548 - Intro to Boy Scouts (Webelos University) 2023
Join us for our 15th annual Webelos University Weekend
The Troop 548 Intro to Boy Scouts (AKA Webelos University) is a chance for youth and their parents to explore what Scouts BSA (formerly called Boy Scouts) is like.
Webelos Scouts in Webelos and Arrow of Light dens are the oldest Cub Scouts in 4th and 5th grades. Webelos Scouts and other youth from grades 4-8 not currently in scouts will experience what it is like to be part of Troop 548 through a fun weekend. It is a great opportunity for Webelos and other youth to get a taste of Scouts BSA, meet our troop, and have fun.
We'll have a youth track and a parent/guardian education program. The troop scouts are still planning the activities, but the activities will include core Scout skills such as map and compass skills, fire building, pioneering, and/or camp cooking. Tomahawk throwing is always a favorite activity, as well.
By preparing for and participating in Webelos University, Cub Scouts working on their Arrow of Light rank will complete a requirement of their rank's Scouting Adventure (Requirement #4 (With your Webelos den leader, parent, or guardian, participate in a Scouts BSA troop's campout or other outdoor activity. Use the patrol method while on the outing.)
While the scouts and other youth are busy with their program, parents will have the opportunity to learn about how the program works, the differences between Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA, how advancement works, suggested outdoor gear, and what Troop 548 is like as a troop. The adults will also get a chance to work together on some Dutch oven cooking to prepare items for our group supper. We'll end the day with a campfire with performances by the troop and Webelos scouts, camp overnight, and then conclude with a pancake breakfast in the morning.
