Research Seminar: Professor Gerard P. Hodgkinson
Title: The past, present and future of business and management studies
Abstract: The Managerial and Organizational Cognition (MOC) Distinguished Scholar Award of the Academy of Management, established in 2002, recognizes senior scholars in the MOC field who have made exceptional contributions to understanding individual, relational, and collective cognition in organizational contexts throughout their careers. To be eligible for the award, an individual must first be a truly distinguished scholar. She or he must have conducted research that has had a significant influence in the field by publishing high-impact articles in the very best journals. Second, he or she must have contributed to the field through service by holding a leadership position with the MOC division or the Academy, by serving as an editor or action editor of leading journals, and/or being an exceptional mentor for doctoral students. Finally, the individual must have completed his or her PhD at least twenty years ago. In this seminar, the 2024 recipient of this award, Gerard P Hodgkinson, will offer his scholarly and personal reflections on the past, present and future of the field of business and management studies, broadly conceived. Drawing on his many and varied experiences, in a career spanning four decades, he will seek to engage colleagues at all career stages in a lively and thought-provoking conversation about issues that (should) matter to us all.
