About the Speakers

Meghan Wenzel is a Senior UX Researcher at 15Five, an employee engagement and performance management platform. She leads 15Five's strategic research efforts, such as exploring how to foster trust and engagement with the tool. Previously she founded the UX Research practice at Factual, a location data startup, where she educated the company on the value of research and built out their UX Research processes. She also worked at ADP, where she conducted research across their various platforms and products. She's written about her experiences in the UX Research world in UX Matters, UX Collective, and Modus by Medium.


John Khuu is a UX Researcher within the Digital Experience Center of Kaiser Permanente.  John has also worked at The Walt Disney Company, specifically in the realm of Parks & Resorts helping teams learn of usability issues in the suite of WDPR mobile apps and websites that Guests use when booking vacations, making reservations, updating their profiles, or even buying Theme Park tickets. Most recently, he worked at the National Football League where he led research for NFL’s connected TV app experience and reported on fans’ issues with the user experience for the GamePass site, the NFL mobile app, and website. At these companies, he has sought to keep the user in the forefront – while building bridges and finding consensus with the diverse multi-disciplinary teams – from product strategists to developers and designers.


David Liu, PhD is currently a UX research at AT&T primarily conducting research on TV products. His responsibilities include conducting large scale quantitative surveys on user satisfaction, data modeling, design communication, and contextual inquiry with users. He is a graduate of UC Irvine. His talk is entitled: The Research Hourglass: From Problem Space to Actionable Insights. UX researchers are tasked to answer questions about their users and to make actionable insights. In this lightning talk, participants will learn about the research hourglass framework to structure and conduct UX research. During the session, participants will apply the framework and design a lightning UX research study.
