{ vulnerability: true } Surviving brutal code reviews and tech interviews

Cecy Correa (Engineer, Thinkful)

Let's talk about vulnerability in tech. Two aspects of our careers in which we can be left vulnerable are code reviews and tech interviews, particularly if they are negative experiences.

Most people have experienced getting ripped apart in a code review or have bombed a technical interview at some point in their career. If you have not experienced it yourself, there’s probably someone on your team who has.

In this talk, I will give actionable feedback on how to improve code review processes in teams to improve the quality of the feedback team members receive.

We'll also look at technical interviews from both the hiring side, and the applicant side:

  • We’ll talk about how to improve the process to create a better experience for applicants while not sacrificing on the quality of the interview.

  • And lastly, we’ll switch things up to see things from the applicant side of things, and talk about ways to cope when we do bomb a technical interview

Evolutionary Vocation: From Solo Dev to Small Team in One Job

Alexander Clark (Lead Developer, Welnfuse)

Lead Developer means something different at every organization. Often, it means something different at different stages of growth in the same company. Maybe that's why it's the perfect title for a role that evolves from individual contributor to leading a small team.

Hear the story of an engineering team growing with a company, and of a Lead Dev learning along the way. You'll get the inside scoop on the failures, the triumphs, and the lessons learned along the way.

What is a data scientist, and how do I know when I need one?

Caitlin Hudon (Lead Data Scientist, OnlineMedEd)

There's a lot of hype around data science. Let's talk about what data science is, who you need to hire to unlock that value, and how to know when you're ready to bring data science into your organization.

Dealing with High Expectations

Ivan Novak (Lead Developer, OnlineMedEd)

A journey to a seismic shift in the appreciation of aptitude and competence and how this can remove growth ceilings both personally and organizationally.
