Sun Sun and the Blue Blue + John Johanna
Sun Sun and the Blue Blue released their debut album this time last year - and they’re already some famous people’s favourite band.
“It’s like if talking heads and the 1980’s theatre piece THE WARP had a baby, with Joni Mitchell occasionally popping by to say hi. There’s three of them and they all swap around instruments: drums, synths, bass and crunchy godlike harmonies”. Sean Penn - apparently.

John Johanna is the nom de guerre of Ben MacDiarmid, an English singer-songwriter whose varied output has run from initial cassette forays in minimal rock and psych-folk to 2022’s Ahimsa EP, a futurist soundscape made with Mandé jali Sefo Kanuteh. 2025 will see the UK release of the movie Day of the Fight, for which MacDiarmid composed the score and that premiered at the Venice Film Festival. His work has received enthusiastic support from such DJs as BBC 6’s Don Letts and Zakia Sewell.
