Human Centred AI - Dympna O’Sullivan, Academic Lead for Digital Futures Research Hub at TU Dublin

In this talk, Dympna will shed light on potential pitfalls and ethical considerations surrounding AI and discuss how Human Computer Interaction can be used to mitigate AI risks by emphasizing transparency and accountability in the development and implementation of these technologies.

Dympna O’Sullivan is the Academic Lead for Digital Futures Research Hub at TU Dublin. Her research is in Human Centered AI, an emerging discipline intent on creating AI systems that amplify and augment rather than displace human abilities. She is particularly interested in the application of Human Computer Interaction as a methodology to drive interpretable, explainable and trustworthy AI. In terms of Computing Ethics, her research is focused on studying the societal impacts of emerging technologies and includes topics such as data ethics and privacy, artificial intelligence including fairness, transparency and bias implications of AI, pervasive technologies as well as relevant governance and legislation.

In this session, we will discuss how GenAI is impacting the industry and discuss how to adapt our skills to the changing times.

Preethi Ravula is a GenAI enthusiast. With a background in Computer Science and Engineering, she leads a team of Solutions Architects at AWS and enjoys mentoring engineers to reach their career potential. She co-leads the Women in Solutions (WISe) within AWS in fostering other women in solutions roles by supporting mentorship opportunities and advancing the number of women in technology roles.

Presenting complex data to professional users - Silvia Amaduzzi & Katie Roche - Workday

Born in Bologna, but living in Dublin, Silvia Amaduzzi is a Senior Design Manager with 12+ years of experience in leading teams of Product designers and UX Researchers across multiple products and industries including insurance, travel, advertising, retail and gaming. Silvia currently lead the EMEA Analytics Design team at Workday, working at the forefront of AI/ML Analytics products for HCM and Financial customers.

Katie Roche is a Senior UX practitioner with over 15 years of experience designing meaningful digital experiences. At Workday, she is part of the Analytics team where she is working on the next generation of AI/ML products for professional users in HCM and Finance. Katie is currently focused on Human-AI interaction experiences — through understanding user needs and mental models, setting clear expectations around AI, and prioritising control and trust in AI.
