Trinity College Dublin Association – Cambridge Branch Spring Event 2019

The Trinity College Dublin Association & Trust – Cambridge Branch will host their annual spring event on Saturday the 23rd of March 2019 in Churchill College, Cambridge. Alumni and Guests are welcome.

12 noon – drinks reception in the Churchill College Bar (cash bar)

12.45 – lunch in the Dining Room, 2 courses with tea/coffee (drinks available at cash bar)

14.15 – Talk by Erica Brandt in the Jock Colville Hall, followed by Q&A (chaired by Brian Bromwich)

Following a sociable drinks reception and lunch, Trinity alumna Erica Brandt will give an illustrated talk on her mother, Muriel Brandt, titled "Muriel Brandt - An Irish artist in her time - Belfast, London & Dublin (1909-1981)". She will also look at the art of her father, Frank, a graphic artist. A rich trove of visual material will be explored, as well as letters, newspapers and periodicals of the period.

About the Speaker
Erica Brandt, daughter of Muriel and Frank Brandt, graduated from TCD in Marine Zoology. She went on to study various aspects of microbiology, and followed a career in hospital sales, until retiring in 2014.

About the Talk
Ms Brandt's talk will outline the early life and successful career of her mother, Muriel Brandt, as well as giving examples of her father’s art; her father, Frank Brandt, was a successful graphic designer. A rich trove of visual material will be explored, as well as letters, newspapers and periodicals of the period. Muriel especially, got quite a lot of media coverage. Their story throws an interesting light on those times.

About the Venue
Churchill College is an especially fitting venue for this talk, with its wide-ranging collection of artworks, including a sculpture trail in the gardens.
