TCD Dining Club London – Trinity Term Dinner

The TCD London Dining Club will hold their Trinity Term Dinner on Thursday 21 May in the elegant surrounds of Mayfair's Savile Club. The evening will begin with a drinks reception at 7.00pm, with guests seated for dinner at 7.30pm. The dress code is Lounge Suits.

The evening's speaker will be distinguished economist, journalist, author and academic Dame Frances Cairncross DBE, CBE, FRSE, who specialises in the influence of high-tech on business and society.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dame Frances Cairncross DBE, CBE, FRSE

Frances Cairncross has been an economic journalist for most of her career, and more recently the head of an Oxford University college. In January 2019, she published an influential review, written at the request of DCMS, on the sustainability of high-quality journalism.

During her career as a journalist, she worked for 13 years on The Guardian, principally as an economic columnist, and then for 20 years on The Economist, where she wrote about environmental issues and the influence of technology on business and society. She has lectured widely to audiences including the World Economic Forum of top managers in Davos, Switzerland, and has written several books, including ‘The Death of Distance: How the Communications Revolution is Changing our Lives’ and ‘Costing the Earth: The Challenge for Governments, the Opportunities for Business’.

In 2015, Frances was made a Dame of the British Empire for services to education, and in recognition of her career as a leading British economist and journalist. She has chaired the Economic and Social Research Council, the British Association for the Advancement of Science (a role in which Trinity College awarded her an honorary doctorate) and the executive council of the Institute for Fiscal Studies. She currently chairs the Court (governing body) of Heriot-Watt University, and is a Trustee of the Natural History Museum.
