TCD Alumni North of England Branch – Annual Dinner

The Annual Dinner for TCD graduates and their friends in the North West of England is to be held Saturday 30th June 2018 in the Lancashire County Cricket Club, Old Trafford, Manchester.

The evening's guest speaker will be Professor Jane Ohlmeyer, Director of the Trinity Long Room Hub and Erasmus Smith's Professor of Modern History.

The dinner will be held in the Williams BMW Suite. Drinks will begin at 7.30pm, with dinner to start at 8.00pm. The price per person is £37.50; the dress code will be lounge suits. The room overlooks the cricket ground and is accessible by lift. A licensed bar will be available until 11.30pm.

Free car parking is available at the Cricket Club; the metro stops outside the door. The Hilton Garden Inn Hotel (attached to the venue) is available for those who wish to stay.

About Our Speaker: Professor Jane Ohlmeyer is Erasmus Smith's Professor of Modern History at Trinity College Dublin. She is Director of the Trinity Long Room Hub, Director of the Centre of Contemporary Irish History and has been Chair of the Irish Research Council since 2015. She is an expert on the 17th century Irish and British history and has published widely on a number of themes.

Her books include Civil War and Restoration in the Three Stuart Kingdoms and Ireland from Independence to Occupation. In 2012 she published Making Ireland English - The Irish Aristocracy in the Seventeenth Century, a fascinating study of the Irish peerage and its role in the establishment of English control over Ireland.

Professor Ohlmeyer oversaw the digitisation of the eye witness accounts from the 1641 rebellion and has helped give perspective to those events that still resonate in these two islands. She has taught in Yale and was the first female history professor appointed in Aberdeen.
