Drinks & Film Screening with TCD Alumni – Luxembourg Chapter

The TCD Alumni – Luxembourg Chapter has organised for alumni & friends to attend a screening of "Educating Rita" followed by social drinks in a nearby pub.

Date: Thursday 19th September

Time: 8.30pm for film, followed by drinks in nearby pub

Location: Cinémathèque de la Ville de Luxembourg, 17 Place du Theatre

The film, which was shot in and around Trinity College Dublin, is being shown as part of the British & Irish Film Festival in Luxembourg. It should be a fun night of catching-up with old friends, making new ones and taking in some culture – not to mention spotting key Trinity landmarks on the big screen!

The group will meet in the lobby of the cinema shortly before the start of the film, which will start at 8.30pm. Afterwards, head for drinks at pub near the Cinémathèque. If you can't meet up for the film, you are still welcome to join for the drinks afterwards (exact pub to be confirmed by Thursday morning).

About the film

Set in London but shot in and around Trinity College Dublin, Educating Rita starts Michael Caine and Julie Walters. It tells the story of 27-year-old hairdresser Rita when she decides to complete her basic education before having children as desired by her husband. She joins an open university literature course and is tutored by Frank, a middle-aged alcoholic and debauched professor from the upper-class whose life has left him emotionally drained and without self-esteem. Rita's humour and determination to improve herself is contagious; she gives motivation to Frank as he helps prepare her for the exams to join the university ...
