Furthur (Who'll Even Remember?)
Furthur (Who'll Even Remember?) is a walking / mixed-transport exploration of London's furthur regions, taking place on the twentieth anniversary of the death of John Balance.
The standard edition of the Coil guided tour Wear Sensible Shoes is itself already an epic undertaking, taking up the lion's share of a whole summer's day. Furthur joins the dots between a selection of the outer London locations that were deemed too remote for the itinerary of Wear Sensible Shoes. Movement between locations will have more in common with a pilgrimage or homage than a curated and well-paced guided tour. What's more, a wintery setting means this day out is suitable only for the hardiest of psychogeographic experience seekers.
All of the locations are suitably Coil-related, drawing from the locations of the band's various capers, photo shoots, song titles and lyrics and from their wider mythology. The misspelled title 'Furthur' refers to Ken Kesey's psychedelic bus and LSD adventure, borrowed and misspelled again by Coil as 'Futhur' on Stolen and Contaminated Songs. Furthur (Who'll Even Remember?) is a rare Coil-centric live social opportunity offering a two-way exchange in an informal and informative environment, and our discoveries and conversations may prompt as many questions as answers. Taking up the best part of a day, the ambitious route will be by foot and by London Transport. Accordingly, the group will be limited in size to facilitate movement. Participants should expect to be mobile for the duration of the day: please bring water and energy snacks! The remoteness of the locations means rest and warmth will come from periods of transit between locations. The tour will conclude somewhere near Woolwich, a few meters south of the river where rest, refreshments and furthur conversation will be available. The price includes all relevant admission charges, but not transport, refreshments or accommodation.
A waiting list will operate in the event of a sold-out walk; please add your details and the organiser will contact you if a space becomes available.
