Do Not Lose Sight of The Sea
Coil spent their final five years in Weston-super-Mare in Somerset, relocating from London to a 22-room Victorian mansion overlooking the Bristol Channel. This was the band's 'Moon Music' period, during which they produced their most haunting, ethereal and melancholy work. Do Not Lose Sight of the Sea explores the terrain that inspired that lunar period.
Highlights of the all-day exploration include Weston's sandy and rocky coast, the ruined Birnbeck Pier, the Golden Dawn's Osiris Temple (near neighbours of the Coil residence), Worlebury iron age Hillfort, and other 'Somerset substructures' including Balance's favourite bar, the Captain's Cabin. This exploration takes place against the backdrop of the slopes and pastures that inspired Dion Fortune's text The Sea Priestess and subsequently Coil's own cosmic coastal time-travel fantasy of the same name. The walk has been timed to coincide with an evening full moonrise.
As an optional extra, those staying Saturday night in Weston (and thereby getting the best of the full moon) are invited to join an epic, largely narrative-free ramble along the Brean Down Way on the morning and afternoon of Sunday 10 Aug, getting closer to the substance of Fortune and Balance's magickal and mythological landscapes and seascapes.
