The monumental and artistic character of the Casa Milà (La Pedrera) has been recognized with the awarding of the world's highest distinctions in heritage protection.
Beyond this initial recognition, the uniqueness and artistic value of La Pedrera were amply demonstrated when the building was included in the Catalog of the Artistic Heritage of the city of Barcelona in 1962, with the declaration as a Historic-Artistic Monument of National Interest by the Spanish Government in 1969, and UNESCO inscribed it as a World Heritage Cultural Property in 1984, for its exceptional universal value.
