“Access to Finance: Business Angel Investment”

11.00am – 1.45pm

Lunaz, Silverstone Technology Park, Towcester, Northamptonshire, NN12 8FU Have you often thought about investing in a small business but didn’t know where to start? Everything that you wanted to know about business angel investment but were afraid to ask! Silverstone Technology Cluster (STC), in partnership with the British Business Bank (BBB) and UK Business Angels Association (UKBAA), are running two events in 2023/24 aimed at raising awareness of business angel investment amongst its members and the wider ecosystem. An angel investor is someone who invests their own money in a small business in exchange for a minority stake (usually between 10% and 25%). Angel investors tend to be entrepreneurs or people with experience in the business world. However, angel investment is about more than just money. Angels offer mentoring and support, and businesses that receive investment will benefit from the investor’s time, skills, contacts and business knowledge. At the first event in September, you will hear from Roderick Beer, Managing Director at UKBAA, the national trade association for angel and early-stage investment, representing over 650 members that collectively deploy in excess of £2bn per annum, who will cover areas, such as:

  • What is angel investment?
  • What are the angel investing risks and returns?
  • What are the regulations around angel investment?

There will also be an expert panel, hosted by Lewis Stringer, Senior Manager – UK Network at the BBB, the UK’s national development bank, to discuss the opportunities available to angel investors, including EMW Law LLP, Elsby & Co., Milton Keynes Investors Group and Foresight Group.
