Metrology SIG Event

Metrology: People, Processes and Practicality

The first event of our Metrology Special Interest Group will showcase the latest in the field of metrology through in-depth presentations from experts at the top of their fields. Joining us for this event is Ian Wilcox from Coventry University. Ian has over 25 years of experience in the field of Metrology, but his specific expertise in the human element of Metrology is what his presentation will focus on for our event.

Ian’s presentation will highlight the issues being faced by companies today in both training and education of metrology. He will showcase his work at Coventry University aimed at tackling this as well as assisting the industry to produce the engineers of the future.

In addition, we offer a rare opportunity to hear from Colin McGrory, technical director at Sandwell. Colin, through his work at Sandwell, has long been at the forefront of R&D in surface engineering, having been instrumental in the development of projects like FlexiFinish for additive manufactured parts as well as nano-crystalisation. Colin was recently announced as global Shotpeener of the Year, becoming only the third European recipient of this prestigious award. Colin’s presentation will highlight his work at Sandwell and their approach to metrology, accuracy and achieving vital incremental improvements.

Former Bentley engineer Daniel Wright will also join us on the day, now in his capacity at Hofer Powertrain Products. His presentation will encapsulate the creation of brand-new measurement facilities, including the CMMs & bespoke fixtures and materials testing, as well as tackling the challenges of supplier quality and validation of goods inwards / processes.

His presentation will also cover simulation of measurement programs prior to measurement of actual components, and using measurement data in the production line to make critical decisions.

More speakers will be announced shortly, but even if you have just a fleeting interest in metrology, this fascinating event will bring you right up-to-date with developments in the field and highlight how modern metrology can make a substantial difference in your business.
