Project Night @ Carta
Into Python and want to experience how cool the Python Community is?
Join ~150 Pythonistas at SF Python's Project Night on Feb 19!
The format is similar to an un-conference. We start with a free food and drink reception from our generous sponsor Optimizely. After formal introductions, Pythonistas join up with like minds to:
- enjoy our featured tutorial
- learn, share, and contribute at planned and spontaneous Special Interest Groups (SIG)
- hack on your own projects
Tutorials offered
Snek - a Python-inspired language in 2kb of RAM
Snek is a new programming language inspired in Python. Snek is designed to be small and easy to teach.
The project was created by veteran open-source developer Keith Packard in 2018 in his effort as a voluntary teacher of Robotics to middle school kids between 10 and 14 years.
The desire for a small and easy to teach language led Snek to include only a subset of Python features, Snek has no classes or generators, for instance, but the Pythonic feeling is there, with functions, loops, dictionaries, and list.
Snek supports microcontrollers with as low as 2kB of RAM and 32kB of ROM. Snek could also be used on Linux, Mac, Windows and also in a web browser thanks to its WebAssembly port.
In this tutorial, we will cover what is Snek and how it was created, what the intended usages and how to install it and get started.
Paulo Henrique Silva will demo Snek running on PC and on Arduino-based microcontrollers. Bring your own Arduino if you want to try as well.
There is no pre-requisite, as long as you know a little of Python you already know Snek.
