Asyncio for greater good with Stephan Fitzpatrick

There’s been a lot of talk over the past few years about the async/await syntax in Python as well as the asyncio library in newer versions of Python and what these changes mean for the language and us as developers. This talk aims to provide a general overview of the concepts behind concurrency and cooperative multitasking and how they’re implemented in Python’s syntax and standard library post-Python 3.5

We’re going to start from the bottom-up as we explore theory and use-cases for asyncio, touching on other concepts such as logging, serialization, and inter-process communication along the way. The goal is that by end end of this talk, you’ll be comfortable with the ideas behind asyncio and be familiar enough with the library’s idioms that you can immediately start becoming productive with the library.

Stephan Fitzpatrick is a software engineer at Kalo. He formally served on active duty as a linguist in the United States Navy, where he learned software development while working as an analyst at the National Security Agency. He is the co-founder of PyHawaii (the Python user group in the Hawaiian islands) and is active in several programming and non-programming communities since moving to San Francisco.
