Product Discovery for Cross-Functional Teams -- Live Online Cohort (4 x 2hr sessions)

Timing: TBD Live Online (Zoom)

IMPORTANT CLASS INFORMATION:

This is a cohort-based class with limited seats available (max 20). The class takes place over four (4) live online class sessions that meet once a week on:

  • Date: TBD
  • Time: TBD

This class was created by Sense & Respond Learning co-founders Josh Seiden and Jeff Gothelf.

Josh and Jeff are world-renowned thought leaders in the space of product management, product discovery and OKRs. They're the authors of Lean UX (which serves as the basis for this class), Sense & Respond, and Who Does What By How Much? A Practical Guide To Customer-Centric OKRs.

Build better products by discovering the right problems to solve.

Learn how Product Discovery techniques and Lean UX can transform your agile practice. This course helps cross-functional teams define assumptions, validate ideas quickly, and build what customers really need through hands-on, practical tools.

What happened? Why did your last idea fall flat with users or leadership?

It's not just about building things right. It's about building the right things. And often, that means learning how to test assumptions before committing resources.

We are often expected to "do discovery" but rarely trained in how to do it well. This course fills that gap.

Using a mix of lecture, discussion, real-world examples, and hands-on discovery practices, we introduce a concise set of tools and methods to help your cross-functional teams learn fast and align around value.

Additional Information

IMPORTANT: This cohort-based class takes place over 4 weeks. Each class is 2 hours long and will take place live, online using Zoom.

Class dates are:

  • To be determined

What will happen in class?

Through a series of hands-on activities, discussions and group work teams take a product from strategy to solution while keeping the customer at the center throughout.

Ahead of every session you will watch a short video lecture setting up the topics for each week's class. During class we'll review the week's topics and practice using lightweight, low investment tools to help us declare our assumptions about our product work.

We will work in teams simulating real-world collaboration as we try to solve for the needs of the customer as well as the business. Each team will have breakout times to work through an exercise followed by group sharing back.

In between each session you'll have time to refine the work you did in class, watch the next set of videos and even run an experiment.

This is not a lecture-heavy class. In fact, almost all of the lectures have been offloaded to the pre-class videos for you to watch at your own pace. Instead we opt for discussion, debate and group activity.

Most importantly we will give you the tools you can use immediately to improve your product discovery work.

What will you learn?

Every participant will leave the class having learned a set of practical tools for integrating product discovery into their teams. Specifically:
* Integrate product discovery into agile workflows * Write testable hypotheses * Conduct effective user research * Facilitate discovery workshops * Use Lean UX tools like the Lean Product Canvas * Align product teams around learning and value

Who is this class for?

Product teams, agile practitioners, UX designers, product managers, front-end developers, and anyone involved in building digital products in iterative, customer-focused ways.

Chantal Botana

Chantal Botana

Chantal Botana is a product coach and founder of Product Evangelist Co. She helps teams ditch the transformation theater and make Product Discovery a natural, drama-free part of how they work. She also trains and coaches teams on OKRs, helping them connect strategy to experiments so they can learn faster, focus better, and deliver what truly moves the needle.

With over 20 years in product — from scrappy startups to scale-ups and global giants like IBM, Samsung, and The Weather Channel — she blends agile, lean, and design thinking with real-world experience to drive outcomes that matter. (She’s even helped grow a mythical unicorn 🦄.)

Originally from Boston and raised between DC and NYC, Chantal has worked across the US, UK, and Europe. When she’s not coaching teams or exploring new places, you’ll find her co-hosting the Product Experiment Garage — a hands-on workshop for product folks who like to learn by doing — organizing a ProductTank, mentoring with Women in Tech, or out on the padel court (no, not pickleball!).

Curiosity and critical thinking are her superpowers — whether she’s partnering on experiments with product squads or saying yes to the weirdest thing on the menu (ask her!). She’s here to help you build the right things, in the right way — and actually enjoy the process.

Maurice McGinley

Maurice McGinley

Maurice started as a technical writer for real time trading systems, but found was easier to redesign the product than explain it — which led to a career in product innovation and a PhD in HCI, and building a public emergency alert system.

Over the past 20+ years, he has worked with companies including Philips, Reuters, Merrill Lynch, and Avast, across sectors from consumer electronics to cybersecurity to climate tech. These days, he gets joy from helping product teams succeed, with a particular focus on effective experimentation.
