Silk Road Mountain Race by Bas Rotgans

In August of this year, RCC member Bas Rotgans rode the inaugural edition of the Silk Road Mountain Race in Kyrgystan. An unsupported bikepacking race over more than 1700 kilometers in the high elevations of this mountainous country in Central Asia. A race that - as it turned out to be - was such a challenge that 70% of the field of around 100 starters 'scratched' from the race. Bas will tell about his preparation, experiences, equipment, and why it’s a wise idea to snuggle up with a big-bearded English bloke when a night turns out to be much colder than you expected.
