Halloween Ride - Rapha Archive Store

Spooky Social Ride

Our next social ride will take place in the eerie evening and we will visit several ghostly sights around the Somerset Levels and Mendips. Perfect for the Halloween weekend. RCC Member Toby is a teacher and history buff, we’ll be stopping at several locations on the route to learn a bit more from him about the supernatural and grisly history of the local area. We’ll also be following the route of condemned men from their last night in cells at Wells Old Gaol, their last meal at the Castle of Comfort Inn and their demise at Gibbets Brow.

The majority of the route will be on unlit roads, adding to the creepy atmosphere of the ride. Starting at the Archive Store where we will learn about the history and ghosts of Shepton Jail, from here we’ll head to Glastonbury, Wookey, Wells and up to the Mendips before heading back to the Archive Store. There is just one tough climb; Old Bristol Road.

Distance: Planned route of approximately 70km with 800m of climbing Speed: Approx 22.5km/h Route: All routes use quiet A and B roads, however there may be occasions where the group rides on busier roads Who: This ride is open to anybody.
