April Social Ride (Hell of the South West)

There’s no other race quite like the Queen of the Classics in professional cycling, also known as the “Hell of the North” it's one of the oldest & most difficult one-day races the pro's face. Starting in Compiegne & culminating in the velodrome in Roubaix, this 257km race is famous for it's 29 sectors of pavé that take real skill, power & a heavy dose of fortune to negotiate. It will be even more gruelling if the weather turns foul, with slippery cobbles & mud-caked jerseys helping earn the race its nickname of ‘Hell of the North’.

The "Hell of the South West" is our 85km tribute to this great one-day race &, in the spirit of the race, is a road bike ride on tarmac & rough tracks. Starting at The Archive Store we will head west on the road less travelled down onto The Levels, between The Mendips & The Poldens, & out towards the coast. Northwick is the half-way point where we'll make the turn & head back east, via Shapwick & a quick stop at Sweets Tea Rooms, to Kilver where we'll be screening the race live in the covered area just outside the store .

Ideally load the route onto your GPS or team up with someone who has one, follow the route and then head to Kilver to watch the Pro's live on TV.
