The No.9 Bus To Utopia

5:30pm - 7pm

After his partner left him for someone ‘younger but more mature’, David Bramwell set himself a life-changing task: to be a more sharing, loving person.

Thus began a global adventure to learn how to live with others. Based on the book of the same title, David’s talk guides audiences to different communities in Europe and the US. He’ll take you through his experiences with an anarchist community in Denmark, a futuristic desert city, and paradise found in a Aldous Huxley-esque Californian retreat. Most fantastic of all– David will introduce you to Damanhur in the Italian Alps, with its underground temple the size of St Paul’s Cathedral and a ‘fully functioning time machine’.

Along the way, his quest raised many question about the nature of wealth, freedom, mental health and whether utopia exists outside of our heads. This wry, self-deprecatingly funny and philosophical talk asks some big questions but finds the answers surprisingly simple.

David Bramwell is a British writer, performer and Sony-award winning broadcaster. He is the founder and host of Brighton's spoken word night, the Catalyst Club and author of the No.9 Bus to Utopia, The Haunted Moustache, Odditorium, Mysterium and Cheeky Guide to Brighton. He has spoken at TED, the Tate, Sunday Assembly and most UK festivals.
