Meetup #11

Open Data Ireland was set up with the purpose of helping citizens access high value, meaningful machine readable data sets generated by the Irish Government. This community meetup will bring together people who are passionate about sharing, learning, using and progressing Open Data in Ireland.

If you work in public or private sectors, if you're a developer, designer, journalist, academic, policy maker, creative thinker, civil servant, entrepreneur or just an Average Joe, you're more than welcome to join us, contribute and participate.

The initiative is supported by the Open Knowledge Foundation - Ireland

General theme for ODI Meetup #11: 'You pick and join a project on the day - from tech to non tech to data governance to making public policy'

In our last Meetup#10 we had talked about next steps in 4 areas so anybody joining in on the 21st Nov. is welcome to participate in any of the 'project groups' outlined below.

Anyone can join! If you can, please try to pick the group you would most like to join beforehand - that way groups will assemble easily and we'll have more time to work on things! ...But, if you're new to this you're welcome to just turn up and we'll introduce you to everyone and you can join in wherever you like.

We suggest working groups from 18:30-20:00 followed by quick round tables.

  • Group 1: Open Data Portal for Ireland (tech, code, staging CKAN instance to let people find the data they need)
  • Group 2: Open/Non Open Data in Ireland(data governance & methodology, gathering metadata)
  • Group 3: Ireland OGP Action Plan (OGP, ODI, civil society engagement process)
  • Group 4: Reviving Opendata.ie (Content)

Next up Open Knowledge Foundation CEO Laura James is joining us via G+ so we'll chat to her, too. Then 'Seevl' is going to show everyone how they are doing music discovery with the help of open data and open web! And then from around 8.30 we'll move to the socializing part of the evening!

We would like to thank the guys in Engine Yard for hosting the event.

Also a big thanks to all of the volunteers who helped organise the event: Denis Parfenov and Flora Fleischer.
