ONE CodeBase February Meetup
Following on from the CodeBase’s win for Ecosystem Champion at the recent Startup Awards in November 2019, ONE CodeBase's first meetup of 2020 will be on Thursday 27th February on the topic Ecosystems and what makes them successful?
We are delighted to announce that this year we finally see the inclusion of the Aberdeen in the Tech Nation Report and are delighted to be joined by Hazel Jane the Scotland Regional Entrepreneur Engagement Manager for Tech Nation.
Hazel’s role is to plug Scotland into Tech Nation's national and international network of growing digital tech companies, support local founders on the ground. Hazel will give us an early viewing of the content of the report and share up-to-date insights about Aberdeen's place in the growth of digital tech in Scotland.
Joining Hazel is Prof. Gordon McConnell, the Director of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Professor of Practice at Robert Gordon University.
Gordon has significant global experience in developing innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems. He has a diverse background in entrepreneurship and the development of startups, innovation teaching strategies, student innovation challenges, corporate innovation programmes as well as startup accelerator programmes.
Prior to joining RGU he held the title of Professor of Practice in Entrepreneurship in King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) from 2016 and was the Head of the KAUST Entrepreneurship Centre from 2014 until December 2017. Gordon was also awarded the title ‘Tech Titan’ for his contributions in Arizona during his Associate Vice President of Innovation and Entrepreneurship role at the Arizona State University.
He has also been a co-founder of two funded start-ups and continues to mentor, support and develop entrepreneurial teams from around the world.
Our third and final speaker is Hassan Hosseini; Hassan and his co-founders (Ali and Alistair) have had two successful startup exists focused on the cloud computing space across Scotland, California and emerging markets. Their first startup helped fortune 500 companies estimate the cost of running application on public clouds such as AWS, Google Compute Engine and others. After getting through to the interview stage of YCombinator, their startup was acquired by California based RightScale - a cloud management platform. For their second startup, they went down the stack and started a public cloud provider. This was acquired in August 2018. The three are back together for a 3rd startup, based out of CodeBase Edinburgh!
Having experience across multiple eco-systems as a founder, Hassan would like to share his thoughts on what makes an eco-system successful.
Come join us for some great chat, awesome food and our usual free beverages!
