Allies Workshop

At Omaha Code School, we strive to be a positive voice in today's technology industry. Our goal is to make our corner of this community a welcoming, inclusive space for anyone and everyone who wants to code.

In light of that, we're hosting an Allies Workshop at our space, moderated by Andrew Ek and Zedeka Poindexter.

The Allies Workshop was designed by the Ada Initiative "to support women in their workplaces and communities". Andrew and Zedeka will be conducting their own variation of the workshop. They will discuss allyship as it relates to gender, but also explore race, class, color, ability, identity, and orientation. Here is a summary of their goals:

  1. Participants will learn to recognize and appropriately respond to divisive language and behavior.
  2. Participants will learn to recognize their own privilege and the ways it affects their behavior toward others.
  3. Participants will understand the importance of diversity and inclusivity, and strategies for becoming more diverse and more inclusive.
  4. Participants will understand that allyship is an ongoing process, and that even the best allies still have a long way to go.

Tickets are $10, and all proceeds will go to Omaha Coding Women.

Space is limited to the first 30 guests, so step right up! We hope to see you there.
