Schedule

November 13th, 2018

12:00pm – 1:00pm UTC
(Optional) Lunch

Join us for lunch in NPR's on-site Soundbites Café. We will appeal to the managerial gods for funding, but until we hear back, expect lunch to be at your own expense. The café has many healthy meal options catering to all dietary restrictions for $6-7 (drinks extra).

1:00pm – 2:00pm UTC
(Optional) Activity TBD

If you're joining us for lunch, we need to keep you entertained after lunch and before the building tour. We'll figure out something! (If there's a Tiny Desk Concert, it will usually happen at 1pm, so that's part of the incentive to get here early.)

2:00pm – 3:00pm UTC
NPR HQ Building Tour

A private tour of the NPR building.

3:00pm – 5:00pm UTC
Presentations and Meet & Greet

NPR developers will give short presentations on cool things they're working on, leaving time for lots of questions. There may also be some sort of panel-style discussion of developer life at NPR. Exact agenda TBD.

5:00pm – 7:00pm UTC
(Optional) Happy Hour

Please join us at Wundergarten, the beer garden just down the street. (It's got heat lamps so it will be pleasant even if it's cold outside.) Drinks will be at your own expense. Non-alcoholic beverage options are available. There is also usually a food truck onsite; see the Wundergarten website for details. (NOTE: it is possible to join us solely for the happy hour; registration is not required in that case, since you won't need to enter NPR HQ.)

Additional Information

Last year, we hosted a panel about developer life at NPR onsite at the php[world] venue. This year, we'd love to have you come to us. Join us for a private tour, informal presentations, lots of Q&A with our developers, and an optional happy hour down the street.

IMPORTANT: 1. Registration is absolutely required, and everyone must register individually (so if, for example, you're bringing your significant other with you, they will need to register themselves). 2. You will need to bring a legal photo ID to get in the building. 3. Everyone is subject to a mandatory security screening upon entering the building. 4. Everyone is responsible for their own transportation from the php[world] venue (or wherever else you might be coming from) to NPR's DC HQ. 5. You will not be able to store luggage at NPR's DC HQ, so please leave it at the hotel.
