WORKSHOP (full day) - Team Topologies Fundamentals for Fast Flow in Modern Organizations - Lisbon

Team Topologies is a clear, easy-to-follow, buzzword-free approach to modern software delivery with an emphasis on optimizing team interactions for flow.

Four fundamental types of team - team topologies - and three core team interaction modes combine with awareness of Conway’s Law, team cognitive load, and responsive organization evolution to define a no-nonsense, team-friendly, humanistic approach to building and running software systems.

Based on the book by experienced DevOps consultants Matthew Skelton and Manuel Pais, "Team Topologies: Organizing Business and Technology Teams for Fast Flow", published by Gene Kim's IT Revolution Press, this workshop guides attendees through the many different aspects of modern organization design for fast and safe software delivery.

The Team Topologies approach is informed by the well-known DevOps Topologies patterns (also by Matthew and Manuel), successfully applied by companies such as Adidas or Netflix, to make sense of how trends like Cloud, DevOps, SRE, apply to a particular org context.

Key aspects covered in this training include:

  • what are the constraints on software architecture and quality imposed by Conway’s Law and how we can turn these into a strategic advantage

  • what are the implications and benefits of taking a team-first approach to organization design, rather than a piecemeal approach driven by the latest hype

  • what are the expected capabilities in a cross-functional product or service team to allow for end-to-end ownership and how to balance that with max team size

  • how to choose team topologies to accelerate and sustain safe, high-speed software delivery: stream-aligned, enabling, platform and complex subsystem

  • how to simplify and enhance communication patterns between teams, clarifying each team’s purposes, responsibilities and expected behaviors

  • how to continuously evolve team structures and interactions depending on internal and external stimuli (such as tech adoption or customer and support feedback)
