Documentary short film screening: Destinies and Distances
Join us for an evening of RefuFilms: Contemporary Hungarian documentary short films. We will be screening 4 films, followed by a short discussion session, hosted by Madrid-based Hungarian film-maker Peter Klausz, in both English and Spanish. Introductions and summaries of each film in both English and Spanish will be available. Drinks and snacks will also be available for purchase.

1 Distance (Dorottya Zurbó, 2017, 9', audio: Hungarian, subtitles: English) This film is a poetic contemplation of memories in growing physical and mental distances. As I travel on an airplane, I fly back towards the memories of my childhood. This film becomes a physical and mental journey taken to visit my Grandmother for the last time in a remote Hungarian village.
2 A Dona da Ilha (Asia Dér, 2015, 26', audio: Portuguese, subtitles: English) "Everyone's life is a constant change in space and time: from adolescent to young adult, then to middle age etc. In order not to let our personality fall into pieces, we have to constantly integrate these changes." (Janos Hay) Mariapaola first traveled around the world, then went to Cannes with her films, finally became a wellknown businesswomen. Now she retired to a small island in the South of Portugal. She has everything. Still she is lonely.
3 Men of the Station (H, 2019, 20', audio: English) Men of the Station is about three brothers who are running a petrol and service station in Queens. The film examines this unique working environment as a home to discussing economic and global issues, the question of migration, and evolves around the representation of a family legacy.
4 The Santiago Diries (Peter Klausz, 2019, 14', audio: Hungarian and French, subtitles: Spanish/English) Each year thousands of people walk the Camino de Santiago in Spain. The Santiago Diaries is a collective documentary that tries to capture the essence of the experiences pilgrims share on their journey. It was made from videos and diary excerpts that were shot and written by pilgrims from all over the world.

Estáis bienvenidxs a compartir una noche de cortometrajes documentales contemporáneos húngaros! Vamos a mostrar 4 películas cortas, seguidas por una charla en inglés y español dirigido por Peter Klausz, un director húngaro basado en Madrid. También contamos con resumenes de los peliculas en tanto inglés como español .
Se ofrecen bebidas y picoteo. La duración será alrededor de 70 minutos.
1 - Distancia (Dorottya Zurbó, 2017, 9', aúdio: hungaro, subtitulos: inglés) Esta película es una contemplación poética de recuerdos físicamente y mentalmente alejados. Mientras viajo por avión, vuelo hacía atrás a mis recuerdos de la infancia. Este cortometraje sirve como un viaje tanto físico como cerebral para visitar a mi abuela por última vez a su aldea húngara.
2 - A Dona da Ilha (Asia Dér, 2015, 26', aúdio: portugues, subtitulos: inglés) “Nuestras vidas están continuamente cambiando en cuanto a espacio y tiempo: desde la adolescencia, hasta ser adultxs, hasta ser ancianxs, et cetera. Para no dejar que nuestras personalidades se destrocen, nos toca seguir integrando estos cambios en la vida cotidiana.” (Janos Hay) Con sus películas, Mariapaola viajó por todo el mundo, terminando en Cannes, y por fin se hizo famosa como buena mujer de negocios. Se jubiló en una pequeña isla portuguesa. Tiene todo. Aún se siente muy sola.
3 - Los hombres de la gasolinera (H, 2019, 20', aúdio: inglés) Los hombres de la gasolinera se trata de tres hermanos que son dueños de una gasolinera en Queens, Nueva York. La película mira esta situación laboral única como escenario para hablar de los problemas de la economía, la política, y la cuestión de migración, evolucionando en una representación de un legado familiar.
4 - Los diarios de Santiago (Peter Klausz, 2019, 14', aúdio: hungaro y francés, subtitulos: español/inglés) Cada año miles de personas hacen el Camino de Santiago en España. Los diarios de Santiago es un documental colectivo que intenta capturar la esencia de las experiencias que comparten lxs peregrinxs en el camino. Está hecho de videos y citas de los diarios de algunxs peregrinxs que provienen de todo el mundo.
