PESOS - Intro to Standup Comedy Writing and Performance - Intensive

Bring your jokes!

By the end of the session, you will have ideas on how to improve them and start writing standup! If you are into it, there will be future classes so you can build on your skills/

Led by Keenan Steiner, of "Gringo With Questions" and a comedian originally from New York who started standup in 2015, here in Mexico City.

Learn how to write, structure a joke, how to write funny premises, and practical tips to get started writing. Start to discover your unique voice - what makes you uniquely funny. Also learn some ins and outs on the standup scene. In a small group setting.

What is the goal? At the end of this class , you will understand joke structure, gain invaluable tips to start writing on a daily basis, and have the basis to start to write your jokes so you can hit the stage!

This is a special class because the whole class is done at a small performance space with a microphone, sound system, and a little show environment. You will get to perform for each other (and see what gets laughs!), and you will get feedback from me and your new comedian friends in the group.

It's an intensive 4 hour class with a lunch break in between!

More classes will follow. This is just an appetizer to whet your appetite to see if you want more!

This class will also help impart the following:

• Discover what's uniquely funny about YOU.
• Techniques to get out of your head and into your body while writing.
• Improve Your Writing Work Ethic
• Q and A

Here is what Class 1 will more or less look like...

SECTION 1 Warm up! We will do some fun warm up exercises used by improv teachers to get us loose! Intro to joke structure Analyze famous comedian clips (possibly) How to "Bring Your Personality" to the stage

SECTION 2 You perform! You try your jokes. Could be two minutes or 6 minutes! Whatever you have. We will work on them together I give you tips on what makes you uniquely funny, how to build on the jokes you are trying. Writing tips to write for next week.

Must be fluent in English to take this class. Your English does not have to be perfect, however you should be able to speak and understand English at a high level.
