Vanda's are native to the tropical islands of the romantic South Pacific which is known for its beauty and ultimate tropic conditions. They can also be found in other exotic locations such as the Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia.

All these exotic destinations have very humid climates and so if you are growing orchids it is very important to remember to recreate their natural habitat with lots of humidity as best as you can, which is actually very easy to do.

Vanda Orchid CareWhen watering your orchid plant remember first that they love and need lots of humidity, so you will need to water your plants as soon as the soil starts to dry out but be very careful not to let it get bone dry between watering.

When growing Vanda orchids they require lots of morning sunlight which is actually best for them because it’s a softer sunlight, but you need to make sure to shelter them from the intense afternoon sun which is generally between 11 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon, it is too intense and will guarantee a short life for your orchid.

The ideal temperature for these orchid types is 75 to 85 degrees, but make sure to temperatures don’t drop below 65 degrees at night.  To create humidity for your orchids you can either buy a humidity tray or you can put a shallow bowl under your plant fill it with small pebbles and keep it filled with water at all times. This creates more humidity for your orchids.

Also, remember to mist them occasionally they really love it and it does help create a healthier plant.  When fertilizing make sure to use a high nitrogen fertilizer (25-9-9), we suggest mixing one teaspoon per gallon and use it once a month, this will help to guarantee that you will have beautiful blooms in bright colorful clusters.

Vanda’s should not be repotted unless the plant has outgrown the pot which generally will be around every 2 to 3 years.This species of orchids are a sympodial epiphytic orchid which means the roots will grow across the surface of rocks or logs and not necessarily under the soil like other orchid plants.

They will grow on tree trunks or in a media of bark and lava rocks and be perfectly content.
