Joe McNally - Language of Light Seminar, Dublin
Information for attendees
Joe McNally's Language of Light Seminar takes place in DLR LexIcon in Dun Laoghaire on Sunday, 19th June.
NO TICKETS ARE FOR SALE ON THE DOOR. YOJ MUST BOOK IN ADVANCE.
Please be at the DLR LexIcon (i.e. the new library) by 9am on Sunday. Doors will open then and we aim to start the event at 9.30am SHARP.
You MUST bring your ticket with the QR code with you - either as a printout, or on your phone, such that the QR code can be scanned at the door. A link to your ticket is attached to the end of this email in case you can't find it.
The event takes place in the theatre within the DLR LexIcon which, confusingly, is called the Studio. There are no assigned seats (but equally there are no bad seats as the seating is tiered), so you can chose your own seat when you enter the theatre.
The library itself is closed to the public on Sunday, so you won't be able to access the event from the main door. Instead, access is via a door on the lowest level of the building, adjacent to the open grass area. If you're at the main door of the library, there are steps to the left of the building down to the lowest level. Go down these steps, and swing back left at the bottom and ahead of you are two pedestrian entrances - one for the car park (straight ahead), and one for the theatre, on the left. This is our entrance. We'll have signs to direct you from the car park and the main entrance.
For those driving, there is parking at the LexIcon - the car park is underground and accessed via Queen's Road (the road that runs alongside the sea). There are actually two car parks adjacent to each other - the LexIcon car park is to the left when you turn off Queen's Road, while there is a ParkRite carpark (Pavilion Car Park) to the right. Both have all-day rates. The LexIcon rate is €6. I believe the Pavilion car park rate is similar. Here is a Google Maps link to the turn off for the car parks:
Please note if you park on the street Dun Laoghaire does police a strict Pay & Display parking regime in almost all areas of the town. Paying for parking, should you need to, is the responsibility of attendees.
Dun Laoghaire is well served by buses and the DART for those of you who do not wish to drive. Both stop within minutes of the venue. Just please allow enough time to arrive by 9am.
Lunch is provided as part of your ticket, in Brambles cafe adjacent to the theatre, inside the DLR LexIcon. The lunch offering is soup and a sandwich, and there may need to be two sittings to facilitate everyone, but everyone will be fed.
You are welcome to bring a camera with you, but please remember that this is not a hands-on workshop so you will not have an opportunity to take the shots that Joe is taking. You can take photos of the setups from your seat for reference, for instance, but we ask that you do not move around the theatre trying to get a better angle. All shots Joe takes will go up on the large screen and the views from all seats are excellent. You may also want to bring a notebook and pen or a tablet for note taking.
Under no circumstances is videoing all or part of the seminar allowed.
At the seminar two of our sponsors, Nikon and DML (distributor for Lastolite and Manfrotto), will be in attendance and available to attendees during the breaks. DML are offering discounts on a huge range of Lastolite gear that Joe uses, for any orders made at the show. We also have a pretty neat giveaway, and as a ticket holder you are automatically entered. Prizes include a Nikon D7200 DSLR kit courtesy of Nikon, a Manfrotto tripod and a €200 gift vouchers from One Photographic.
We are hosting a networking event after the seminar in the neighbouring Royal Marine Hotel. All attendees are welcome - there'll be finger food and an opportunity to chat with fellow attendees. With 100 professional, semi professional and amateur photographers in the one place at the same time, which is a rare event, this is a great opportunity to put faces to familiar names or to make new contacts. DML will be there also with show specials on a range of products that Joe uses regularly.
If you have any questions please contact us at events@irishphotographers.com. The email account is checked regularly and we will reply to you as soon as possible.
Kindly supported by RTÉ, Nikon, Manfrotto, Lastolite, DML & One Photographic
