Strengthening Child-Focused Analysis
Developing danger statements, Safety Goals, and safety Scales together with children, youth, families and their networks.
Hosted in Zoom on December 10th 2026 at 9:30am Toronto time (UTC-5)
This practical Signs of Safety workshop focuses on strengthening child-focused analysis through strong danger statements, meaningful safety goals and paired safety scales, and how they work together as the bookends to safety planning. An equity informed lens is intentionally woven throughout the learning experience, supporting participants to think critically about how assumptions, bias, judgment, power and language can shape analysis and decision making, while maintaining a rigorous focus on safety and the lived impact on children and young people.
Through practical exercises, case application and reflective discussion, participants will build confidence in drafting child-focused danger statements grounded in everyday language; develop safety goals that directly address identified worries and describe what needs to happen for children and young people to be safe; and use paired safety scales to support assessment, safety planning, supervision and decision making.
This workshop is designed for child protection practitioners, supervisors and practice leads, Signs of Safety practitioners seeking to strengthen child-focused analysis, and professionals committed to rigorous, equity-informed practice.
