Empty Chair Town Hall for Sen. Feinstein's Constituents
The Town Hall was ready to go—the venue booked, the chairs unfolded, the podium waiting. The only thing missing: Senator Dianne Feinstein. Despite requests from a coalition of community groups comprised of 15,000 Californians to talk with their Senator face-to-face, Feinstein has declined to attend the event in Oakland, California, letting down her constituents.
Despite the Senator’s absence, the event’s organizers are undeterred. We've scheduled a rousing set of speakers to fire up the audience, and encourage them to continue to take civic action. George Lakoff, a linguist well-known for explaining how to frame effective political narratives, will take center stage, and we'll have other speakers as well.
The most important speaker, though, is you. This "Empty Chair" town hall will use the format suggested by the Indivisible Guide. We'll record questions and statements from constituents and send them to Sen. Feinstein's office, as well as to members of the press. We'll also encourage attendees to post their feedback for Sen. Feinstein on Twitter and Facebook, using the #FeinsteinEmptyChair hashtag. The Senator has chosen not to hold an open Town Hall during this recess, but that doesn't mean we have to be silent. Come out to speak up and support resistance of the Trump agenda!
