Filippo Vignato 'All About Dreaming'

Doors 7:30pm/Music 8:00pm

All About Dreaming is a solo trombone performance by Italian trombonist Filippo Vignato to adapt and interact with the different acoustic dimensions of different spaces: an essential and minimalist dialogue with the echoes, reverbs and resonances of the place to be discovered and to be immersed in during the concert for both the performer and the audience. The strong relationship and interaction with the space redefine the musical and performative narration over time, in a continuous exploration of the expressive sonic and acoustic possibilities of the environment through f free improvisation.

Reworking the link between performing art and the concert form, All About Dreaming is an all-encompassing experience for musician and audience, enveloped by the same sound and the same space in a timeless dreamlike dimension, following the path created by European historical trombone legends like Albert Mangelsdorff and Paul Rutherford.

The performance has been developed through several site-specific performances and residencies in historical buildings, churches and exposition spaces such as Basilica Palladiana in Vicenza, Chiesa di San Filippo Neri in Fermo (MC), Pinacoteca San Domenico in Fano (PU), Tempio di San Michele in Perugia.

The concert will be approximately 60-70 minutes without an interval

Additional Information

FILIPPO VIGNATO BIO Born in Northern Italy in 1987 and raised in a musical family, Filippo picked up his first trombone at the age of 10. Nowadays he performs intensively in Italy and Europe as a forward-looking sideman and as a leader of his own bands, considered as one of the most interesting Italian musicians of his generation.

His musical journey started early. Through years of studying, performing and travelling across Europe, he has developed a clear musical vision, without boundaries between genres and where the ritual process of improvisation touches the listener.

He is active in different fields of creative music, embracing contemporary jazz, free improvisation, new music, and world music.

From 2014 he has led an electric trio with Attila Gyarfas on drums and Yannick Lestra on fender rhodes: with them he recorded his acclaimed debut album ‘Plastic Breath (Auand 2016) and more recently ‘Heidelberg - Live at Enjoy Jazz’ (Auand 2020).

In 2017 he released his second album ‘Harvesting Minds’ as a leader with a new fully acoustic quartet alongside Giovanni Guidi on piano, Mattia Magatelli on bass and Attila Gyarfas on drums. In 2018 he released ‘Pipe Dream’, with the eponymous band formed by Zeno De Rossi on drums, Giorgio Pacorig on piano, Pasquale Mirra on vibes and the American cello legend Hank Roberts. In 2019 released ‘Ghost Dance’ - a duo record with Hank Roberts and in 2020 he joined italian trumpet master Paolo Fresu and his quintet.

He won the ‘Best New Talent’ award in the 2016 ‘Top Jazz’ critics pool promoted by the historic italian jazz magazine ‘Musica Jazz’ , following the release of his debut album ‘Plastic Breath’ (Auand). Throughout his career he received several other awards: from the as a best soloist at Barga Jazz 2011 to the Burghausen European Young Artists Jazz Award 2017.

The Cooler The Cooler is upstairs at The Complex Arts Centre, in the heart of Dublin 7. The Cooler is accessed via the Mary's Abbey door of The Complex (just off the LUAS tracks), NOT the Arran St East entrance to The Gallery. You can find the red wall which features ‘The Complex’ sign in large white letters, and The Cooler is accessed by the small blue door or the glass door on the blue wall.

During the day, the footpath and paving in front of The Complex can often be filled with fruit and vegetables from our neighbouring businesses - you can still access the Cooler at these times, don’t let the carrots be a barrier!

On Google Maps, search for The Cooler or The Depot at The Complex (the main performance space downstairs at The Complex). On Google Maps, the address for The Complex generally will bring you to the gallery on Arran St East.

The red line of the LUAS runs very close to The Cooler, taking the stop at Jervis St or at Four Courts. There is no customer parking available at The Complex. A small gated Dublin City Council car park can be accessed on Marys' Lane, around the corner at standard rates. Jervis Shopping Centre Car Park is also close by. Some street parking is available nearby - days and rates vary, please check signs.

For performances, The Cooler bar is open at door time (usually 30 minutes before the start of the performance), and during intervals. To make finding a seat and getting your drink a comfortable experience, please ensure you have enough time before the music starts!

Access notes The performance space is up two flights of stairs and may be difficult to access for patrons with mobility issues. The space is fully seated. Gender-neutral toilet facilities are available upstairs (a few steps up from the level of The Cooler). Baby-changing facilities are available at The Gallery, downstairs at The Complex (using the Arran St entrance).

If you have any other queries regarding accessibility or require any accommodations for seating etc, please contact us at admin @ improvisedmusic . ie and we will do our best to assist you.
