Cooler Clinics Online: On the Road with Emma Rawicz

Each month, Improvised Music Company hosts Cooler Clinics – free professional development sessions designed to help jazz and improvising musicians navigate the music industry, develop their careers and gain practical insights from experienced artists and industry professionals.

What does it really take to build an international career in jazz? And what happens behind the scenes between the practice room and the festival stage?

At just 23, saxophonist, composer and bandleader Emma Rawicz has established herself as one of the most exciting voices in contemporary European jazz. From independently releasing her debut album to signing with acclaimed German label ACT, touring internationally and building a substantial online following, her career has developed at remarkable speed.

In this Cooler Clinic, Emma will take us behind the scenes of that journey, exploring the decisions, relationships, opportunities and occasional missteps that have shaped her path so far.

She'll discuss developing an artistic identity, building professional networks, reaching audiences, navigating the recording and live music industries, and finding a balance between creative ambition and the practical demands of a music career.

From her popular 100 Days of Practice social media series to international touring and collaborations, Emma will reflect on what has genuinely helped her career progress, what hasn't worked as expected, and what she's learned along the way.

We'll explore:
* Building a distinctive artistic identity and finding your place in the jazz scene * Creating opportunities, making connections and developing professional relationships * Growing an audience, online and offline, and translating visibility into opportunities * Navigating releases, touring, festivals and industry partnerships * Managing setbacks, maintaining momentum and balancing the creative and business sides of music

With an open Q&A, this session offers musicians at any career stage an opportunity to learn from Emma's experiences, ask questions and take away practical ideas for their own professional development.
