Le bilinguisme pour l'enfant à la maison et à l'école / Bilingualism for the child at home and the school environment

Irini Fafalios a grandi dans un environnement bilingue - par hasard ! Née au Royaume-Uni de parents grecs, elle a vécu la plupart de sa vie au Royaume-Uni. Après un diplôme en Anthropologie sociale (Master), Irini a commencé à étudier l'approche Montessori et a obtenu les diplômes 0-3, 3-6 et 6-12 aux centres de formation AMI de Londres (Royaume-Uni) et Bergame (Italie). Elle a aussi participé à la première Assemblée d'Educateurs Sans Frontières en Italie. Pendant qu'elle vivait à Londres, elle a dirigé une école communautaire pour des enfants hellénophones pendant 20 ans, ce qui lui a permis de mettre en pratique les principes Montessori en dehors de la classe. En plus d'avoir mis sur pied une Maison des enfants bilingue à Londres, Irini a travaillé avec plusieurs institutions scolaires britanniques pour promouvoir l'éducation bilingue et biculturelle dans le public. Elle est partie vivre en Grèce il y a 20 ans et a commencé à former des adultes à Montessori. En partenariat avec un groupe de parents, elle a mis sur pied une organisation à but non-lucratif qui supervise aujourd'hui le centre Montessori AMI d'Athènes (The Montessori Institute, Greece), The Montessori House, Glyfada, et participe à la publication de livres Montessori en grec.

Irene Fafalios was raised bilingually - by chance! Born in the UK of Greek parents she has lived in the UK for the greater part of her life.  After graduating in Social Anthropology (MA), she began her studies in The Montessori approach, obtaining diplomas for the child 0-3, 3-6 and 6-12 at the AMI Centres of London, U.K. and Bergamo, Italy. She also attended the First Assembly of Educateurs sans Frontieres in Italy. Whilst living in London, she ran a community school for Greek speaking children for 20 years, allowing her the opportunity of applying Montessori principles beyond the classroom. Apart from setting up a bilingual Children’s House in London, Irene worked with several British educational institutions to help promote bilingual and bicultural education in the state sector. She moved to Greece 20 years ago, and began lecturing on Montessori.  Together with a group of parents, a non profit organization was set up, which now runs the AMI training centre (The Montessori Institute,Greece) in Athens, The Montessori House, Glyfada, and is involved in the publication of Montessori books in Greek.
