I Annotate 2021 was held as an all-virtual conference during Monday 21–Friday 25 June 2021, restarting this annual gathering of educators, scholars, researchers, publishers, journalists, fact-checkers, and technologists engaged with open annotation practices and tools after a pause during 2020. Given social annotation's dramatic growth during the massive migration to remote teaching and learning in the pandemic, #ianno21 had a special focus on annotation in education. In keeping with this year's theme — reading together — the touchstone across all sessions was how more and more people are coming together through social annotation to share ideas, ask questions, and make connections.
