Heinrich Boll Weekend 2022

A three-day literary programme over the May bank holiday weekend, includes readings, walks, concerts and lectures.

  • Guided Walk in Landscape with Eoin Halpin €30 10:00 Saturday April 30th . Dooagh Loop walk. Meet at Dooagh Beach car park. The walk will provide the opportunity to look at the effect of ice on the Achill landscape, and how it sculpted mountains and valleys. We will also look at the post-glacial period, the arrival of the first inhabitants on Achill and the changes they wrought. The walk will allow us to look at the development of peat on the island and we’ll discuss the stories locked away in these deposits. Finally we’ll discuss the evidence for a 8000 year old tsunami which originated in Norway, known as the Storegga Slide, and discuss what effects this may have had on the island of Achill. Lunch afterwards in Pure Magic.
