Level 1 Walking Qualification

Do you like walking? Would you like to know more about navigating and map reading? Would you like more confidence in taking your unit out for adventures in the countryside?

Then the Level 1 Walking Qualification could be for you!

This two day course covers everything from how to successfully read a map and use a compass, knowing the right clothes and equipment to take, route planning and navigation, as well as looking out for hazards and developing leadership skills.

The course will be at Little Acres campsite in Epsom on Saturday 28 February and at Holmbury St Mary Village Hall on Saturday 14 March 2026. There will be training including a walk each day and a badge for anyone completing both days.

As well as the two days of training, to be certified for your Level 1 Walking Qualification there is a water safety module to complete, a walk log book to record your own walks and you will need a valid first response qualification. Your first walk before you take young members out on your own will be with a qualified supporter who can then arrange for your qualification to be signed off!

This course is open to any leader or young leader aged 16 or over in Surrey East or Surrey West.
