Funding Films that Break Boundaries
Filmmakers Lab holds regular monthly social meet-up sessions at Exeter Phoenix, the multi-arts venue in the heart of Devon. We offer a regular programme of creative workshops, guest speakers, masterclasses and film screenings for members top expand their knowledge and practice. There are also opportunities for members to discuss and explore ideas around their current filmmaking project in a constructively supportive environment.
May Session: Funding Films that break Boundaries
For our May session we are looking at filmmaking as creative, experimental and ever changing medium. To help you find a space to make work that isn’t straight narrative drama or documentary, and tap into completely new and unexpected funding sources.
We will be discussing New Creatives, funded by Arts Council and BBC Arts, this exciting talent development scheme offers commissioning opportunities for emerging artists to create new work in film, audio or interactive media, designed for BBC platforms. It has just launched and is offering £5k funding to make a 3-minute short films, for artists who are aged 16-30 and live in the South West. The scheme is run by Calling the Shots in the South West, but being lead by Kaleider in the Devon area.
We will then expand on this to look at other commissioning opportunities (open to all age groups) and what support is available for filmmakers working across art forms, in non-linear narrative or digital storytelling. This will cover all type of work from dance film, artists moving image, immersive video installations to 360 video and VR.
