Filmmakers Lab Session #1: Launch Event
Filmmakers Lab holds regular monthly social meet-up sessions at Exeter Phoenix, the multi-arts venue in the heart of Devon. We offer a regular programme of creative workshops, guest speakers, masterclasses and film screenings for members top expand their knowledge and practice. There are also opportunities for members to discuss and explore ideas around their current filmmaking project in a constructively supportive environment.
The first Lab session is an opportunity to outline what the aims are for the Lab, what we have initially planned, and a chance to hear from filmmakers what they feel they would benefit from.
Come along to find out more and join us in a celebratory drink to kick off the scheme. There will be plenty of opportunity to network with other attendees and ourselves.
One aspect of the Lab that we strongly want to encourage is an environment where filmmakers feel comfortable discussing their work, and help support one another as projects are explored and developed.
To that end, for our first session is a ‘Show & Tell’ - where attendees are invited to either bring along an object, an image, something read or experienced that was an inspiration for the project they are currently working on. Or it could be a scene from a short film on a data stick, if they want to share an example of their work to those present. But it can be as simple as saying a little about yourself & your background to date.

Our long-term ambition is to support a growth of regional filmmaking talent and increasing the quality of locally produced films. Raising awareness of the South West as a central hub for film production, to ultimately attract more productions to the region and create local job opportunities.
We are a not for profit organisation, any income generated from membership fees is spent on programming and developing the initiative and filmmakers involved. We are funded through support from Exeter City Council, Film Hub South West, and our partner organisation Exeter Phoenix.
