Filmmakers Lab (March 2019): Tax & Self-Funding Your Films
Filmmakers Lab holds regular monthly social meet-up sessions at Exeter Phoenix, the multi-arts venue in the heart of Devon. We offer a regular programme of creative workshops, guest speakers, masterclasses and film screenings for members top expand their knowledge and practice. There are also opportunities for members to discuss and explore ideas around their current filmmaking project in a constructively supportive environment.
March Session: Tax & Self-Funding Your Films
Guest Speaker: Peter Nicholson - Writer/Director
For this guest speaker session, we are going to focus on independent financing, gaining investor confidence and how tax affects film funding. We’re thrilled to have locally based based Director Peter Nicholson joining us to talk about how he used these process to produce his first feature film Dartmoor Killing. This method of funding applies to all type of film production and will be relevant to anyone looking for a way of getting their project off the ground without going down mainstream funding routes.
BAFTA winner Peter Nicholson has some thirty years experience writing, directing and producing prime-time UK network and international television programmes. He trained in film drama under the British feature film director Mike Figgis and in documentary with the late Denis Mitchell.
Peter has written, directed and produced many award winning television films, notably Pompeii – The Last Day (Prime Time EMMY & 2 BAFTA Noms); Nuremberg – Goering’s Last Stand (BAFTA); Day of the Kamikaze (NYTVGold) & Beasts of the Roman Games (RTS).
In 2011, Peter set up Peter Nicholson Films Ltd, to develop independent film & TV projects. Dartmoor Killing, is PNFL’s first feature film, which had it’s theatrical release in September 2015.
